Austin Headshot Photography
A useful headshot should feel like a real introduction. With natural light, a comfortable setting, and just enough guidance, we can make photographs that are polished without looking overworked.
Plan your headshot sessionA Better First Impression
People often need a new portrait for a website, a byline, a creative project, a speaker profile, a portfolio, or a new season of work. The photograph may be small on the screen, but it carries a lot. It should give people a clear sense of you before they meet you.
I make headshots with a patient, observant approach. Instead of rushing through a line of poses, we make space for you to settle in. I watch the light, the background, your posture, and the small shifts that make a portrait feel open rather than rehearsed.
My work in nature photography has taught me to notice what cannot be forced. That attention is useful with people, too. A quieter expression, a turn toward the light, or a pause between directions can make a photograph feel more like a person and less like a performance.

A Setting That Fits
A headshot does not have to be made against a blank wall to feel professional. An outdoor setting can add softness, color, and a sense of place without taking attention away from you. A garden, neighborhood, trail, park, backyard, or another quiet location with room to move can all work well.
Before the session, we will talk about how you plan to use the photographs and what you want them to communicate. From there, we can choose a location and time of day that support the feeling you have in mind. I will help you consider shade, walking distance, privacy, access, and changing weather so the plan feels simple when the day arrives.
The goal is not to turn the setting into a distraction. It is to give the image a little depth and make it feel connected to a real world. That can be especially useful for people whose work is personal, creative, local, or rooted in the outdoors.
Portraits For Your Work
For a studio page, exhibition note, project announcement, or portfolio, we can make portraits that carry some of the character and care already present in your work.
A current photograph can make a byline, event listing, author page, or guest introduction feel complete. We can create a small set of expressions and compositions that stay useful across different contexts.
If your work depends on trust and a personal connection, a thoughtful headshot gives prospective clients a clear, welcoming first impression without making you look unlike yourself.
Sometimes one portrait is not enough. A longer session can leave room for a few close images, wider environmental portraits, and detail-rich options for a launch, pitch, or personal project.
You do not need to arrive with every detail decided. Bring a reason for the photographs, a few preferences, and a willingness to take your time. I will help turn that into a practical session with room for good light and genuine expression.
What To Expect
We will talk about the purpose of the photographs, the places they will appear, the setting, and anything you want to avoid. You can share ideas for clothing or location, and I will help turn them into a simple plan.
I will keep an eye on light, background, and the rhythm of the session while offering direction when it helps. There is room to adjust, take a breath, and follow an unexpected moment when it makes the portrait stronger.
You will receive a professionally edited proof gallery to review. From there, you select 10 final high-resolution images for digital download, giving you a considered set rather than an overwhelming stream of files.
Coverage And Pricing
Headshot sessions are $550 for up to two hours. This includes photography time, a professionally edited proof gallery, 10 final high-resolution images, and digital delivery. Additional coverage is available at $300 per hour.
Two hours gives us room to work without rushing. We can take time to warm up, choose the strongest light, make a few changes in expression or framing, and create options that can serve more than one purpose. If your project needs more range, we can talk through what additional time would add.
Ask about headshot photographyAn Observant Approach
A strong headshot is not only about looking directly at the camera. It is also about the pace of the session, the light around you, the background behind you, and the confidence that comes from knowing you do not have to get everything right in the first minute.
I bring more than 20 years of photography experience to each session, along with an eye trained by field work to watch before making the image. That means I am paying attention to what helps you look at ease, while keeping the finished photographs useful for the work you want them to do.
We can make space for more than one kind of image in the same session. A close, direct portrait may be the right fit for an author page or speaker profile. A slightly wider image with more of the setting can work beautifully for a website, a creative project, or an introduction where a little context matters. The proof gallery gives you time to see which photographs feel most useful before you choose your final collection.
Good headshots also need to stay useful after the first announcement or update. Rather than chasing a short-lived look, I aim for photographs with a natural finish and a calm sense of presence. They should feel at home beside your words, your work, and the people who will come to know you through them, whether they meet you online, in print, or in person, from the first introduction onward.
